Citi Forward actual rewards rate

So I’ve been recommending the Citi Forward credit card to everyone I know because of the fantastic rewards. Why is it so great?

Bonus points!

There are just so many ways to get bonus points with this card.

  • 6,000 points for spending $50 in the first six months.
  • 5,000 points for signing up for paperless statements. (That’s like 11,000 free points so far!)
  • 5 points for every $1 spent on books, movies, music, and restaurants, and 1 point for every $1 spent on all other purchases. (Yes, amazon.com is a bookstore!)
  • 100 points each month you pay your bill on time and stay under the credit limit.

I eat out and buy from amazon often enough that it adds up to around $300 each month, out of a total bill of about $600. Including the 100 point bonus for paying my bills on time, this gives me an average bonus rate of 3.2 points per $1 spent.

What are bonus points worth?

  • Cash
    • $50 - 8000 points (0.625c per point)
    • $100 - 16000 points (0.625c per point)
  • Visa Gift Card
    • $25 - 3500 points (0.714c per point)
    • $50 - 7000 points (0.714c per point)
    • $100 - 14000 points (0.714c per point)
  • Statement Credit
    • $15 - 2500 points (0.600c per point)
    • $25 - 4000 points (0.625c per point)
    • $50 - 7500 points (0.667c per point)
    • $100 - 14500 points (0.690c per point)
    • $175 - 25000 points (0.700c per point)
    • $250 - 35000 points (0.714c per point)

As you can see, the highest conversion rate (0.714c per point) comes from any of the Visa Gift Cards, or for $250 of statement credit. This means that I can get approximately 0.714*3.2 = 2.29% back on every dollar I spend.

How much do you get back on your credit card?

PS. Anyone know how I can get a referral bonus?
